In partnership with families and the wider community, we provide a broad curriculum enriched by appropriately challenging, varied and exciting opportunities
Who Runs the School
Shefford Lower is a Community School serving Shefford, its catchment area, and surrounding local communities. It is run by an elected Board of Governors and the Headteacher. Details of our Governing Body are included in the enclosures with this prospectus.
Governors' Roles and Responsibilities
The Governing Body helps shape the vision and direction of the school and ensures it fulfils its statutory duties. The Governing Body has a good understanding of the strengths and any weaknesses of the school and is, therefore, able to challenge and support the senior management team. As a result, the school is able to evaluate its performance and plan strategically to improve all aspects of school life. Shefford Lower is most fortunate to have committed and able Governors who come from diverse backgrounds, bringing their experiences of industry, finance, education and commerce to the school.

Our School
Shefford Lower School is a community where children and staff enjoy the rewards of working together, celebrating success in all areas of learning and personal development.
The school's catchment area is the town of Shefford and most of our pupils are from this area. Parents living outside of this catchment will need to apply for a place through the Local Education Authority.
We are situated on a spacious site shared with Robert Bloomfield Middle School. The children benefit from the ample playing field, environmental garden and hard play areas.
During 2004 and 2005 the school was developed and extended to improve school facilities. The school enjoys the use of a dedicated ICT suite and medical room as well as 11 bright and spacious classrooms, in addition to the nursery unit. The large hallways provide additional areas outside the classrooms for group activities and resources. The large school hall provides excellent space for PE activities, assemblies and for dining purposes with modern PE apparatus such as wall bars, ropes and beams.
Also sharing our site is the Orchard Children's Centre, serving Shefford and surrounding villages, and Acron Pre-School. The Pre-School also offers before and after school care for children up to the age of 9.
